Why Work With Us

As humans, we have two fundamental needs; to be connected with ourselves, and to experience belonging with others.

When we shift our perspective from criticism, internally or externally, and turn to curiosity, we begin to create space for compassion, accountability, change, and growth.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

At Relationship Therapy Centre, our first sessions vary based on client needs, age, and goals. Key intentions include:

  • Administration: Ensuring paperwork is covered and clarifying terms of service.
  • Identity Exploration: Uncovering your past and present to understand values, roles, and influences.
  • Main Concerns: Exploring the want for therapy and your desired outcomes.
  • Understanding and Assessing: Reviewing current situations, feelings, and coping mechanisms.
  • Reflections and Next Steps: Collaborative feedback to tailor a treatment plan for your goals.

First sessions can look different depending on the uniqueness of clients. If you hold specific hopes for what your first session may look like, it can be important to first attend a free phone consultation and share your thoughts with a therapist.

Many people come into therapy experiencing challenging life dynamics and are eager to access relief and comfort. While it is hard to put a specific number to this question, research has shown an average of 10 sessions allows for most clients to report experiencing progress. However, there are a number of factors that may influence the time it can take before experiencing noticeable progress. Some of these factors include the circumstances that people are coming into therapy with – the severity of the concerns, what their goals are for therapy, as well as the commitment they hold, how consistently they will engage in therapy, and what they are willing and able to do between sessions.

Research has shown that success and satisfaction in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and client. The timeline of seeing progress is also impacted by the timeline of when the therapist and client feel they have developed a quality relationship. It is quite possible that as an alliance forms between client and therapist, deeper exploration may be possible in therapeutic conversations.

There’s a common misconception that couples therapy is the only avenue for addressing relationship concerns. In reality, the therapist’s role in couples therapy is to collaboratively establish goals for the relationship, ensuring both partners are involved.

However, individual therapy offers a unique space to prioritize and explore the hopes and concerns of one individual. Striking a balance between individual and couples therapy can be beneficial. To navigate the best path for your circumstances, consider scheduling a free consultation with your preferred therapist as an opportunity to gain clarity on the most suitable approach for you.

No concern is too small or insignificant to come to therapy. Coming to therapy is a personal decision and it is most effective when the person wants to be there, and may see value in it. While many people may access therapy services when feeling distress, many also attend when they are feeling fine but hoping to be proactive for future planning and continued self-discovery.

It is important to reflect on how your experiences are impacting your life and relationships. If you are uncertain about whether your experiences warrant therapy, it can be helpful to have a free consultation with a therapist to explore the doubts that may suggest it isn’t right for you, and make space for the parts of you that are interested enough in reading this!

We approach therapy as a collaborative journey. Our therapists work with you to establish shared goals, paving the way for relief from concerns and a path towards a life with more calm and ease.

The dynamics of therapy are influenced by various factors, including the client’s age, goals, and the therapist’s approach. Generally, therapists engage in conversations centered around you, learning about your history, present experiences, thoughts, beliefs, values, fears, and hopes. These discussions may involve specific techniques, reflective activities, or creative exercises.

Therapy aims to foster sustainable and meaningful change by providing insight into yourself and your relationships. Therapists empathize with sensitivity but also challenge you to encourage personal growth and feel relief from circumstances and feelings weighing you down. The approach is tailored to your unique needs and preferences. We strongly recommend a free consultation to address your specific circumstances and find the right therapist for you!
