Psychotherapy Intern

Hi / Salaam, I’m Maryam. I’m a therapy intern who is passionate about supporting individuals, couples, and families in making sense of their stories, relationships, and sense of selves.

I speak English and Farsi. As someone who grew up in a bicultural immigrant family, I bring a lived understanding of how culture, identity, and intergenerational dynamics can shape how we see ourselves and relate to others. Rather than assuming narratives that confine us to a single way of being, I see the therapy space as a space to explore, on your own terms, how you want to relate to the world.

I work with individuals, couples and families across the lifespan, and I welcome the opportunity to serve people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. I am especially interested in supporting clients navigating cultural identity and expectations, BIPOC experiences, relationship challenges (romantic or platonic), family and intergenerational dynamics, challenges with self-esteem and self-worth, and life transitions.

In my work, I help clients slow down and understand what they’re going through, notice patterns in their relationships and life experiences, and reconnect with their strengths and what feels meaningful to them. My approach is grounded in an anti-oppressive and culturally responsive lens. I work collaboratively with clients, drawing from a narrative, dialogic, and solution-focused approaches. I see therapy as a space where meaning is explored, stories are re-authored, and new possibilities for relationships with self and others can emerge.

Clients often describe me as calm, grounded, and easy to talk to. I value authenticity and humor, and I am to create a space that feels both safe and real.

Particular Areas of Focus:

Relationship Challenges, Anxiety, Life Transitions, Family Relationships, Self-Esteem and Self-Worth

Outside of the therapy room, I hold many roles that are deeply important to me – I’m a daughter, sister, a friend, student, and a community member. These parts of my life continue to shape how I understand connection, responsibility, and care for others. I enjoy staying active through soccer, pickleball, and walking, as well as spending time outdoors hiking and camping. I also find clarity in simple routines like going for drives with music, and I enjoy learning how to cook and bake. I appreciate small moments of comfort in everyday life, like a good iced vanilla latte.

I look forward to connecting with you.
