Hi, my name is Melissa Barton, and I am a registered social worker educated with a master of social work, honors bachelor of social work degree and diploma in child and youth work.

For over 20 years I’ve been providing direct support service to families in the community experiencing hardships and acute crises situations. In my professional role, I have had the opportunity to stand with and advocate for children and families which in turn has provided me with invaluable learning.

I now offer individual, couples and family therapy at the Relationship Therapy Centre in Mississauga. My approach to therapy is tailored to meet the unique needs of each person. I provide a private, safe space and supportive therapeutic environment for this important work to happen.

If you are looking to connect with a patient and kind, female therapist, I am currently accepting new clients.  I am available for regular and ongoing sessions, or single sessions to process/discuss a specific situation, concern, topic or need.

About me as an Individual Therapist…

My priority as your therapist is you. I am here to listen, support, guide and assist you with meeting your goals. Your sessions will always focus on your individual needs. We will start where you are comfortable and if you are not sure where exactly that is, that’s okay too. We will develop a plan together.

As a generalist clinician, and as a therapist derived from many years of community based social work, I practice with application of theories that explore origins of behavior with evidence-based approaches. Sessions will offer perspective based on the person in environment theory, considering the client within their psychosocial contexts.

Consultations are available at no cost!

About me as a Family Therapist…

I am passionate about helping families overcome challenges, build stronger relationships, and healthy attachment. I provide therapy to children and their caregiver(s), teens, adults, couples, and families. I am also available for parent/caregiver coaching sessions. I offer in-person, client-centred therapy sessions at the Relationship Therapy Centre in Mississauga. Virtual sessions are also available if you prefer.

My approach to therapy is tailored to meet the unique needs of each person and/or family seeking help. Areas of session focus can include family dynamics and relationships, parenting, child development, adolescence, behaviour management, mental health, addiction, abuse, trauma, self-care, and wellbeing.

I provide a private, safe space and supportive therapeutic environment for this important work to happen. Supplementary resources and tangible strategies to support positive change and learning will be provided or recommended as it relates to your goals and therapeutic needs.

About me as a Couple Therapist…

We will meet for planned sessions to address your relationship needs and work towards your joint-goals. I will support your work together through guided communication methods to encourage exploration of differences, worries and concerns. In session, couples will also be encouraged to share times of closeness and togetherness, consider mutual success and strengths.

I will share resources to supplement your sessions and recommend tangible strategies to implement between sessions to support healthy communication and connectedness.
