Hello and welcome! My name is Rebecca Daoust and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Being a therapist is only one of the many hats that I wear, I also am a dog mom to two, and a guinea pig mom to three. I am a lover of animals, nature and the sea. When I’m not meeting with clients, I spend most of my free time camping throughout various parts of Ontario, taking care of my variety of cactus and house plants and practicing yoga with friends!
Within individual therapy, I strive to cultivate a space where you feel safe and secure in exploring parts of yourself that maybe you have never been allowed to explore or have felt safe enough to acknowledge by yourself or with others.
While everyone’s goals are unique, I welcome conversations surrounding what you hope for in therapy, whether that be guidance, validation, problem-solving, or coping skills, I hope to help you create the meaningful change that you are looking for in your daily life.
The methodologies that I often turn to in individual therapy are Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems, and Narrative approaches. I also enjoy Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and teaching vagus nerve relaxation strategies (let’s reset together!) Regardless of the approaches that I hold value in, I ultimately believe in supporting the needs of each individual client and creating a plan that is unique and suited to you and your goals.
My hope for working with you in individual therapy is to provide you with an anti-oppressive, non-judgemental, and empathic therapeutic space while working as a collaborative team. I often stress that you are the expert in your own life and experiences, and I am simply the one who helps guide you further along in your journey of self-discovery.
I recognize and admire the vulnerability and strength that it can take to reach out for support. I’m here with you and am privileged to witness and be a part of the meaningful change you can create along the journey.
About me as a Couple Therapist + Family Therapist…
Within relational therapy, I strive to cultivate a space where you feel safe and secure in exploring parts of yourself within and outside of the relationship. I hope to explore the history of your relationships, what has worked well in the past and what areas of your relationships you hope to invite change.
In this work, I believe in the importance of identifying attachment figures, models of relationships and what connection looks like and means to you. You can expect us to discuss how key relationships have played a role in shaping and teaching you about connection, and safety in future relationships.
The methodology that I often utilize in relational work is Emotionally Focused Therapy, where we identify negative patterns within the relationship, and find ways to create meaningful change through emotional expression, vulnerability, and communication.
Regardless of the approaches that I hold value in, I ultimately believe in supporting the needs of each client and creating a plan that is unique and suited to you and your relationship goals. My hope for working with you in couple therapy or family therapy is to provide you with an anti-oppressive, non-judgemental, and empathic therapeutic space while working as a collaborative team.
